PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hazel LeVasser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Urijah Faber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). LeVasser comes to the cage accompanied by X-Men: First Class- Magneto. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hazel LeVasser!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Urijah Faber!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
LeVasser shoots in but Faber avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Faber tries to keep at a distance but LeVasser has taken the fight into the clinch.

LeVasser is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Faber can't fight it off and eventually LeVasser manages to take the fight to the floor. Faber looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Faber manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. LeVasser manages to get himself to full guard.

Faber wants to control from the top but LeVasser keeps moving.

LeVasser looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Faber gets to his feet - LeVasser follows without any prompting.
Faber wants to clinch.
LeVasser closes the distance and clinches up with Faber, looking for a takedown. LeVasser pushes Faber against the cage but Faber circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Faber stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hazel LeVasser. That's going to take a lot out of him.

LeVasser closes the distance and clinches up with Faber, looking for a takedown. LeVasser pushes Faber against the cage but Faber circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Faber is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Faber keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Faber forces LeVasser back against the cage and clinches.
Faber is trying to pull guard but LeVasser has him pressed against the cage.
Faber is trying to push LeVasser away but LeVasser has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
LeVasser changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Faber fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Horrible takedown by LeVasser or perhaps it was just good defense by Faber which made him look bad.

LeVasser shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Faber sprawls well. Faber wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. LeVasser gets slowly back to his feet.
LeVasser is breathing heavily.

Faber scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Faber content to control rather than advance.
Faber frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
LeVasser is desperately trying to improve his position but Faber has a good base and remains in mount.

LeVasser tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
LeVasser is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Faber is landing with some decent strikes but LeVasser is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
LeVasser is squirming around, avoiding Faber's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Urijah Faber dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


LeVasser keeps the fight on the outside.
No luck for Faber with that takedown attempt.
LeVasser slips a jab and a cross from Faber.
Faber has his takedown stuffed
and LeVasser counters with a nice low kick that buckles Faber's knee momentarily.
Hazel LeVasser is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
LeVasser shoots for a double leg takedown but Faber sprawls well. He's pushed LeVasser's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A kick lands to the mid section there for LeVasser.
LeVasser is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Faber tries to clinch but LeVasser is having none of it.
Faber is breathing heavily.

LeVasser gets in close and instigates a clinch.

LeVasser wants the takedown. Faber is fighting it off but LeVasser persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Faber's guard against the cage.

LeVasser has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
LeVasser wants to control from the top but Faber keeps moving.
Faber tries to land a sweep but no joy.
LeVasser trying to control the position from guard on top but Faber is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
LeVasser looking to sit in guard and control but Faber gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Faber wanted to stand there but LeVasser had control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

LeVasser looking for a sweep. Not yet LeVasser, not yet.
LeVasser trying to control the position.

LeVasser has his foot on Faber's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Faber works his way back into a safe position though.

LeVasser looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Faber gets to his feet. LeVasser looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Faber trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
LeVasser controls Faber momentarily but Faber frees himself.

LeVasser is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Faber postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! LeVasser is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Faber, into his guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hazel LeVasser dominated that second round.
That's time! LeVasser's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


LeVasser shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Faber as he avoids it easily.
LeVasser misses with a takedown attempt - Faber sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from LeVasser lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Faber has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Faber and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
LeVasser takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Faber misses with a series of wild punches.

Faber is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in LeVasser's half guard.

Faber lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Faber passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for LeVasser!
LeVasser keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Urijah Faber has got the better of the ground game so far.

Faber jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… LeVasser is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by LeVasser and Faber has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

You can see the frustration on LeVasser's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Faber tries to advance to mount but can't.
LeVasser tries to bench press Faber off him but Faber keeps the position.
LeVasser takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
LeVasser keeps Faber under control for a moment.
Faber controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
LeVasser is not content to let Faber control the position.
LeVasser is trying to improve his position.

Faber decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Faber shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Faber showed some decent athleticism there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
LeVasser trying to control from the bottom.
LeVasser is trying to stand back up but Faber is controlling him
LeVasser wants to control but Faber is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Faber is trying to work for a kimura but LeVasser is defending well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Faber throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

And that's the end of the fight!
Urijah Faber comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Faber has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
