PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bing Boom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boom has chosen NokiSowa as his entrance music. Bing Boom will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Frank King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bing Boom!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from King. No joy for Boom on that attempt.
King gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Boom counters with a nice double leg into side control. King won't be happy with that.
Boom sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but King is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
King is looking for a sweep.

Boom decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Boom connects with the punch.
Boom has his takedown stuffed

and King counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by King.
Boom wants to sweep here but King controlling him for the moment.
Boom lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for King!

Boom trying to control but he's not successful this time.
King is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boom with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Boom looking to control but King is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Boom moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, King has worked his arm free - good work by King!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
King is trying to control Boom's posture but Boom avoids it.

Boom working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Boom tries to advance to mount but King denies him.

Boom is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but King is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Boom looks gassed!

Boom stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Boom misses with a takedown

and King counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Frank King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bing Boom.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with King in particular looking to stall.
King trying to control from half guard but Boom is working away.
Boom wants to control but King is keeping busy.
Boom is looking for a sweep. King is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boom is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Still in half guard, King seems content to control.
King is just content to waste time from the top position. Boom takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Boom manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
King is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank King will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Boom feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
King can't keep his opponent in guard - Boom advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Boom is thwarting King's attempts to control the position.
King tries to roll over but Boom keeps him under control.

Boom is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Boom wants to advance to full mount but King doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Boom is breathing heavily.

Boom trying to control but King is working from the bottom.
Boom throws and elbow that misses. King uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Boom's guard. Nice move by King!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boom trying to keep a closed guard but King is proving a slippery customer.

Boom has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but King can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
King has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Boom is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Boom wants to sweep but no luck.

Boom working for a triangle but King defends it easily.
Boom can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as King controls the pace.

Boom has an active guard here but King has managed to pass into half guard.

King not doing much here.
Boom is refusing to be controlled, as King sits in half guard.
King is really struggling to control Boom but he's trying to hold on to the position.
King is taking a breather. Boom says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Frank King just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
King misses with a takedown attempt

and Boom counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Bing Boom has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boom being controlled here momentarily.
King keeping full guard, as Boom tries to pass.
King utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
King trying to control the position here.
Boomis looking to pass into half guard but King pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now King is in guard.
Boom keeping moving, preventing King from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bing Boom showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


King shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Boom counters with a takedown into side control.

Boom decides to stand back up.
King with a lazy takedown attempt

and Boom counters with a single leg into guard. King didn't expect that.
Boom pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. King is keeping the position for now.
Boom wants to get up but he can't break King's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Boom wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
Boom stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Boom drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and King dives on top into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Boom looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Boom looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Boom tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Boom isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. King stacks Boom on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by King!
Boom is looking to regain half guard here but King keeps moving and retains side control.
Boom manages to work his way to half guard, despite King's best efforts.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boom is looking to improve his position.
Boom wants to control but King is keeping busy and won't allow it.
King prevents Boom from improving his position.
Boom makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Boom.
Boom looking to hit a scissor sweep but King is one step ahead there.

King is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Boom has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. King is looking to defend but Boom has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for King! Boom pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, King taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Bing Boom!
