The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marksman misses with a few strikes there.

Marksman shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense.
Smith buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Smith lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Marksman down.
Marksman tries to improve position but can't.
Marksman tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Smith presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
The referee warns Marksman that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Smith lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Smith slips a nice elbow through Marksman's hands, connecting with Marksman's forehead.

Smith is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Marksman defends it well.
Marksman tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.

Smith working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Still in half guard, Smith seems content to control.

Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Smith works over Marksman with some ground and pound from guard.

Marksman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Marksman has an active guard here but Smith has managed to pass into half guard.
Smith passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Marksman!
Marksman is working to get back to half guard.
Smith blocks Marksman's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Marksman flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Marksman wants to hold on but Smith pushes him away.

Marksman somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Marksman catches Smith with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Syd Smith dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Marksman connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Marksman closes the distance looking for a takedown. Marksman picks Smith up and slams him brutally to the floor. Smith is out! He's out cold! Wow, you don't see a finish like that every day!
