Gomez has chosen rage against the machine bulls on parade as his entrance music. Ruiz Gomez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Emerson Jorge.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rasmussen with a lazy takedown attempt
and Gomez counters with a two punch combo.
Rasmussen looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Gomez breaks from the clinch.

Rasmussen tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gomez just stands there and leans against the cage.

Gomez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Gomez rushes Rasmussen and presses him up against the cage.

and Gomez moves into the clinch.

A left and a right from Gomez both land. Nice combination.
Gomez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Rasmussen.
Gomez throws a right hand that Rasmussen ducks under and follows up with a left that Rasmussen also avoids with ease.

Gomez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rasmussen doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Gomez counters with a head kick. That will keep Rasmussen thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Gomez darts in and clinches Rasmussen up against the cage.

Gomez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rasmussen slips a jab and a cross from Gomez.
Gomez misses with a two punch combination.
Gomez misses with a wild combination.
Rasmussen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gomez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gomez.

Gomez manages to break the clinch.
Gomez lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rasmussen backs up against the cage.
Gomez misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gomez's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Gomez duly obliges.
Oh Rasmussen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sloppy strikes from Gomez. Those never looked like landing.
Rasmussen seems to have got his legs back now.
Gomez pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Rasmussen back to the cage. Gomez follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Gomez is really turning it up, unleashing another crisp combination which drops Rasmussen like a ton of bricks! The referee dives in to stop the fight, saving Rasmussen from another fist facial!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ruiz Gomez!
A determined Ruiz Gomez didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
