PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Coolpunch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lay Pray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Coolpunch's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Man From Manila by Francis Magalona. Pray comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Don't Fear the Reaper- Blue Oyster Cult kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Lay Pray enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny Coolpunch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lay Pray!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pray throws a head kick but Coolpunch moves out of range.
Coolpunch tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pray sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Coolpunch somewhat.

Pray darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Pray is controlling the pace.
Pray lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Pray with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Let's hope that Pray has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Coolpunch is in trouble now - Pray has advanced to mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pray content just to control the position here.
Coolpunch regains half guard.
Pray trying to control the pace.

Pray stands up and beckons Coolpunch to join him on the feet.
Coolpunch tries for a takedown but Pray circles away easily

and Pray counters with a nice double leg into side control. Coolpunch won't be happy with that.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Pray lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Coolpunch takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Pray avoids the strikes from the bottom by Coolpunch.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coolpunch is being controlled here.
Pray scoring with punches from side control.
Pray controls the position.
Pray working the body and head with strikes.
You can see the frustration on Coolpunch's face as Pray controls the position.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
It looks like Pray might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Lay Pray.
Coolpunch shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pray as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Coolpunch. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pray shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Nice strikes from Pray there.
Pray content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Pray stands up from half guard.

Pray has Coolpunch up against the cage in a clinch.

Pray has Coolpunch pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Pray pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Coolpunch tumbling to the mat - Pray dives into Coolpunch's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pray controlling from the top position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Pray stands and steps away. Coolpunch gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lay Pray dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Pray throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Coolpunch tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pray is in Coolpunch's guard.
Pray has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Coolpunch being controlled here, momentarily.
Pray works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Pray takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Pray has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Coolpunch tries to get to full guard but Pray has control of the leg.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Lay Pray wasn't active enough on the ground.
Coolpunch fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Pray scores a takedown into full mount!
Pray controlling the pace for now.
Lay Pray has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pray working the ground and pound effectively.
Pray in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Pray's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lay Pray has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Coolpunch takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Johnny Coolpunch is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Pray clinches with his opponent.
Pray tries to score a body lock takedown but Coolpunch shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Coolpunch with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Pray escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Pray fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Coolpunch sprawls well initially but Pray persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Pray seems content to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Lay Pray was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Pray darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pray perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Coolpunch tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Pray working the head and body with strikes.
Pray slows the pace down in half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pray lands with a punch from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lay Pray showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Coolpunch with a lazy takedown attempt

so Pray counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Pray is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Lay Pray wasn't active enough on the ground.
Pray connects with a right that clearly hurt Coolpunch. He's backed up against the cage with nowhere to go as Pray proceeds to tee off with vicious combinations till Coolpunch collapses and taps out under the pressure!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:53 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lay Pray!
Lay Pray decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
