PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stefan Struve (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Overeem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Struve comes to the cage accompanied by nie Tempah - Written In The Stars. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Struve.
Overeem throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Struve sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Overeem lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Struve at a distance.
Overeem defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Struve.
Struve moves out of range as Overeem strikes.
Struve throws a sloppy head kick
and Overeem counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Struve scores with a leg kick.
Struve misses with a body shot.
Overeem throws a hook but Struve avoids it easily.
Struve shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Overeem sprawls well. Overeem wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Struve gets slowly back to his feet.
Overeem throws out a loose jab but Struve uses good head movement to avoid it.

Struve closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Overeem quickly recovers to half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Overeem looks like he's trying to stand up.
Struve is looking to take a break and control but Overeem is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Struve is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Struve seems to be working for a kimura but Overeem defends the submission attempt.

Struve uses his free foot to push down on Overeem's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Overeem.

Struve unloads with some shots from mount but Overeem bucks and avoids them well.
Overeem is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Struve will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Struve sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Overeem is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Struve wants to finish this one by submission but Overeem is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Struve.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Struve throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Overeem looks gassed!

Struve working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Struve trying to control but Overeem is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Struve is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Overeem has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Overeem!

It looks like John Overeem has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Struve shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Overeem eats them both and turns towards Struve to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Overeem takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Struve throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Overeem.
Struve fails to land the takedown.
Struve misses with a low kick.
Struve moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Overeem is breathing heavily.

and Overeem counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Struve lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Struve throws a left that rocks Overeem and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Struve dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Overeem regain composure!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Struve has an Americana. Overeem didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Struve is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Struve hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
