PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Seth Duplesris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brantley Cermak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cermak has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. The key to victory for Seth Duplesris has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Seth Duplesris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brantley Cermak!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Bruno Hogan and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duplesris scores with a head kick.
Cermak looks gassed!

Cermak gets caught flat footed, as Duplesris shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Duplesris wanted to stand there but Cermak had control of the position.
Cermak is trying to keep Duplesris in close.
Duplesris controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Duplesris trying to control but Cermak is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Seth Duplesris wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Duplesris cracks the inside of Cermak's front leg.

Duplesris shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cermak's guard.
Duplesris stays in close to Cermak's body and controls the position.
Duplesris pushing down on Cermak's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Duplesris postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Cermak to stand up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cermak can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cermak is refusing to be controlled, as Duplesris sits in half guard.
Duplesris could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Duplesris is really struggling to control Cermak but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Duplesris decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Duplesris takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Cermak is trying to maintain the position but Duplesris is very close to passing his half guard.

Duplesris gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Cermak takes a jab right on the kisser.
Duplesris lands a jab-cross combination.

Cermak gets caught napping as Duplesris dives in and scores a takedown. Cermak manages to retain guard.
Duplesris might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Duplesris trying to control the position from guard on top but Cermak is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cermak looking to hit a scissor sweep but Duplesris is one step ahead there.

Cermak is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duplesris is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Duplesris wants to control from the top but Cermak keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Duplesris fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Duplesris shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Duplesris showed some decent athleticism there.
Duplesris wants to control but Cermak is keeping him busy.
Duplesris not doing much here.
Cermak keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Cermak is breathing heavily.

Duplesris wants to take a breather but Cermak is having none of it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Duplesris passes to side control.
Cermak tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Duplesris in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Duplesris works to advance to full mount. Cermak defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Seth Duplesris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Duplesris controlling the position easily from mount.

Duplesris is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Cermak can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Duplesris is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cermak can do to turn this around?

Duplesris controlling the pace for now.
Duplesris trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Duplesris looking to finish Cermak with some ground and pound. This is bad for Cermak!

Duplesris wants to finish this one by submission but Cermak is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Duplesris.
Cermak tries to hold on but Duplesris pushes him away.

Cermak is in all sorts of trouble here.

Duplesris stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Duplesris shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cermak as he jumps to the side.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cermak enables Duplesris to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cermak manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Cermak looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Cermak thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Duplesris stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cermak swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Duplesris stands and throws Cermak's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Cermak avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Duplesris.
Duplesris fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
You can see the frustration on Cermak's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Duplesris is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cermak knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Cermak takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Duplesris is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cermak has escaped the position, nice work there.
Duplesris just content to control the position.

Duplesris's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Duplesris in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Duplesris decides to stand back up. Duplesris steps back and let's Cermak get back to his feet.

Cermak is trying to stand.
Duplesris wants to pass to mount but Cermak is defending the position.

Duplesris seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cermak does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Seth Duplesris showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Duplesris has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
