PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jim Nate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jim Nate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose Aldo!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Aldo misses.
Aldo lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Nate backs up against the cage.
Aldo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nate but Nate pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Nate throws a head kick but Aldo moves out of range.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Nate.
Aldo closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Nate will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Nate gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Nate has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Aldo avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Aldo tests Nate's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Nate takes a swing at Aldo's ribcage but misses.

Nate instigates a clinch.

Nate breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Aldo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
No joy there for Nate, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nate misses with a series of wild punches.

Nate has taken the fight to the clinch.
Nate throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Nate wants the takedown. Aldo is fighting it off but Nate persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Aldo's guard against the cage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Nate loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nate stops Aldo from standing up.
Nate postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Nate is looking to work some ground and pound but Aldo has wrist control.

Nate throws a strike but Aldo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Nate is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Nate is breathing heavily.
Nate trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Nate wants to get back to his feet but Aldo passes into half guard.

Nate tries to kick Aldo off but Aldo keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nate avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Aldo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jim Nate will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Aldo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Nate has Aldo up against the cage in a clinch.
Nate is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Aldo is defending well for now.
Nate has Aldo pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Aldo manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Nate tightens his grip and picks Aldo up, before dumping him to the ground. Aldo manages to land in guard.
Nate stands up over Aldo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nate throws an elbow that misses. Aldo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Nate's guard. Nice move by Aldo!

Aldo trying to control the position from guard on top but Nate is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Aldo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Aldo looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Aldo has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Nate is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Aldo yanks on the arm and Nate is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Aldo.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jose Aldo!
