PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hector Dojaquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kiwi Bird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bird has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Hector Dojaquez has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 80 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kiwi Bird!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dojaquez darts in and clinches Bird up against the cage.
Bird can't break the clinch.

Dojaquez manages to pull guard.
Dojaquez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Dojaquez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bird is one step ahead there.
Dojaquez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bird got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dojaquez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bird has managed to get both his arms back between Dojaquez's legs - danger averted.
Dojaquez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bird!

Bird should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bird is rocked!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dojaquez looking to control and managing it successfully.
Dojaquez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Dojaquez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bird for as long as he can get away with.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Hector Dojaquez wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Dojaquez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Dojaquez has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Dojaquez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Dojaquez dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Bird has had enough and taps out.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Hector Dojaquez!
