PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Fluffy Kittens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jonathan Paton and Columbo Gatti.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edwards scores with a leg kick.
Edwards connects with a leg kick. Kittens looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Kittens uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Edwards.
Some bone on bone action there as Kittens checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Edwards turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Kittens shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Edwards as he avoids it easily.
Edwards is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Nice takedown defense from Edwards. No joy for Kittens on that attempt.
Kittens sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Edwards lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Kittens has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Kittens and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Kittens chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Edwards can pounce on him.
Edwards lands with a kick to the ribs.

Edwards tries to sprawl but Kittens drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Edwards is looking to control Kittens's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Edwards avoid being mounted?
Edwards wants to get back to full guard.

Kittens is looking to take a break and control but Edwards is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kittens missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Kittens is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Edwards defends it well.
Edwards is staying active underneath Kittens, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kittens is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kittens is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Edwards is in all sorts of trouble here.

Kittens is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Edwards has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Kittens with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Kittens sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Edwards can't escape the position.

Kittens looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Edwards tries to reverse the position but Kittens maintains control.
Kittens looking to control but Edwards is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Kittens moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Edwards has worked his arm free - good work by Edwards!

Kittens is looking to take a break and control but Edwards is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kittens in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Edwards is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kittens connects with a decent elbow.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kittens in side control, throwing shots but Edwards defends.

Kittens is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Edwards has escaped the position, nice work there.
Kittens wants to control but Edwards is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Fluffy Kittens will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Edwards gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kittens has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Edwards defend it? Kittens steps over the head and cranks it - Edwards is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Kittens!
