The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Alves tries to sprawl but Rodrigues drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Alves has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rodrigues is working away from the top position though.
Rodrigues with the ground and pound but Alves uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Rodrigues throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Alves works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Rodrigues has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rodrigues is working Alves over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Rodrigues wants to work for an arm triangle but Alves is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Alves makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Rodrigues is just content to waste time from the top position. Alves takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Alves avoids a punch combination nicely.
Alves swings for the body but Rodrigues moves out of range.
Rodrigues changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Alves tries to avoid it but Rodrigues manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Alves to the ground. Alves escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Alves scores with a head kick. Rodrigues tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

It looks like Leandro Rodrigues has been cut.
Alves doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Rodrigues drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Alves manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rodrigues has Alves in his guard.

Alves ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rodrigues moves away.
Alves walks into a stiff left hand from Rodrigues.
Alves thows a body shot but no joy.
Alves misses with a two punch combination.
Rodrigues shoots in but Alves avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Rodrigues shoots for a double leg takedown but Alves sprawls well. He's pushed Rodrigues's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leandro Rodrigues. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rodrigues loads up on a big left hand. Alves felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Rodrigues looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Alves can't hide his disappointment, as Rodrigues celebrates the victory.
