PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Darnelczyk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Savas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savas has chosen Seven Nation Army as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Daniel Darnelczyk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damian Savas!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Joseph Jones and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savas moves in looking to clinch but Darnelczyk pushes him off.
Darnelczyk throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Savas's waist but Savas gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Darnelczyk off to one side.
Darnelczyk tries to clinch up
and Savas makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Darnelczyk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Savas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Savas wants to stand and escape but Darnelczyk is having none of it.

Savas is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Darnelczyk is controlling him.
Darnelczyk tries to free his leg and advance position but Savas is retaining full guard.

Savas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Darnelczyk blocks a head kick by Savas.
Savas scores with the left hand. Darnelczyk knows he should have avoided that one.
Darnelczyk tries for a takedown but Savas circles away easily
and Savas cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Darnelczyk throws a combination that misses
and Savas counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Darnelczyk decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Darnelczyk is taking a breather. Savas says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Darnelczyk seems to be working for a kimura but Savas defends the submission attempt.
Darnelczyk is breathing heavily.
Darnelczyk prevents Savas from standing back up.

Savas is looking to control Darnelczyk's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Savas avoid being mounted?
Savas is staying active underneath Darnelczyk, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Savas is trying to maintain the position but Darnelczyk is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Darnelczyk fails with the takedown

so Savas counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

and Savas counters with a shoot takedown. Darnelczyk fights it but they end up in guard.
Savas wants to control from the top but Darnelczyk keeps moving.
Darnelczyk looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Savas puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Darnelczyk wants to get back to full guard.
Darnelczyk has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Savas is working away from the top position though.

Savas postures up.
Darnelczyk is really struggling to control Savas but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Darnelczyk lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Savas!
Darnelczyk is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Savas is in real trouble.

Savas trying to get back to his feet but Darnelczyk is in full control for now.

Darnelczyk looking to break Savas's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Savas remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Darnelczyk will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Savas wants to control his opponent's hands but Darnelczyk gets his hands free.
Darnelczyk is looking to control Savas but Savas is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Darnelczyk is persistently looking for the submission but Savas is defending it well.

Savas is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Savas avoids the body shot from Darnelczyk.
Savas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damian Savas dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Savas falls off balance throwing a combination
and Darnelczyk counters with a stiff right hand.
Darnelczyk fails with the takedown
and Savas counters with a two punch combo.
Darnelczyk misses with a double jab
and Savas counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Darnelczyk is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and Savas counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Savas.
Oh Darnelczyk is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Savas is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Darnelczyk seems to have got his legs back now.
Savas wants to get up but he can't break Darnelczyk's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Savas decides to stand up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Darnelczyk misses with a straight left.
Savas throws a series of strikes that have Darnelczyk backpedaling.
Darnelczyk doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Savas holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Darnelczyk. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Savas wants the takedown. Darnelczyk is fighting it off but Savas persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Darnelczyk's guard against the cage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Darnelczyk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
