Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ace Popo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akira Hayabusa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Popo comes to the cage accompanied by Murder To Excellence. Hayabusa has chosen Viper! as his entrance music. Akira Hayabusa has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ace Popo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Hayabusa!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hayabusa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hayabusa won't allow Popo to sweep him here.

Popo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hayabusa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hayabusa got a little sloppy there for a moment and Popo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hayabusa has managed to get both his arms back between Popo's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Popo manages to reverse the position and now he's in Hayabusa's guard. Nice work there by Popo.

Popo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hayabusa tries to avoid it but Popo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hayabusa to the ground. Hayabusa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Popo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hayabusa was covering up waiting for the punch and Popo finishes the takedown easily into guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Popo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hayabusa with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Popo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hayabusa is fending him off so far but Popo persists. Nope, Hayabusa circles away and we're back to standing.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ace Popo.
I think Hayabusa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Akira Hayabusa decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
