PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Josh Harper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter has chosen Dance Monkey -Sage Francis as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Josh Harper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Matt Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter looks for a takedown but Harper sprawls well.
Harper tries to bum rush Hunter with a series of wild strikes but Hunter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hunter dodges the punch combination from Harper.
Hunter throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Harper's waist but Harper gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hunter off to one side.
Harper scores with a leg kick.
Hunter takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Harper - that will leave a mark!
Hunter walks forward, straight into a front kick from Harper.
Hunter fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Harper avoids it really well and circles away.
Josh Harper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Hunter.
Harper throws a right and a left that Hunter avoids nicely.
Harper looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Hunter moves into range and clinches up with Harper.
Harper wants to break free but Hunter has control.
Hunter tries for a takedown but Harper manages to get underhooks.

Harper knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hunter on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Josh Harper.
Harper throws a front kick aimed at Hunter's knee but Hunter avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hunter is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Harper gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Hunter has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Harper uses from the top position.

Hunter has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Harper.
Harper tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Harper feints and then cracks Hunter's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hunter down.

Harper connects with a high kick.
Harper misses with a series of wild punches.
Harper stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Harper wants it to stay on the feet.

Harper throws a push kick but Hunter slaps the foot to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Harper dominated that second round.
That's time! Harper's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Harper throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Harper throws a nice looking combination but Hunter bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Hunter shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hunter showed some decent athleticism there.
Harper looks like he's trying to stand up.
Harper on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Harper tries to get out of the position.
Hunter moves into full mount! Harper won't be happy about that!

Hunter has control of Harper's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Harper regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Hunter takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Hunter might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Harper kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Hunter looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Hunter wants to control the pace but Harper is squirming around nicely.
Hunter avoids the attempt from Harper to control.
Harper holds on for dear life.
Harper tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Harper is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Hunter can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Harper is looking to escape.
Josh Harper overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Harper tries to hold on but Hunter pushes him away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You get the feeling that Harper really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Hunter sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Hunter lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Harper wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hunter avoids the attempt from Harper to control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Harper is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hunter looking to secure an arm triangle but Harper defends it well.
Hunter trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Hunter prevents Harper from getting the reversal.
Harper is working hard here to advance position.
Harper's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Harper is looking to improve his position but Hunter isn't that keen on the idea.

Matt Hunter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Harper wants to hold on but Hunter pushes him away.

Hunter takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Harper tries to lock up and control but Hunter gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Matt Hunter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
