The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sakuraba gets caught flat footed, as Brand shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Brand got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sakuraba has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Brand has managed to get both his arms back between Sakuraba's legs - danger averted.

Brand keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sakuraba's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Brand decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Brand closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sakuraba to the mat! Sakuraba manages to get full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brand makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Sakuraba tries to sprawl but Brand drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Sakuraba has hold of Brand's hands but Brand slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Brand looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Brand slips a nice elbow through Sakuraba's hands, connecting with Sakuraba's forehead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sakuraba is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Brand pulls his head out easily.

Brand seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
