The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kaliniev shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Edgerton is trying to defend but Kaliniev finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Kaliniev isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Edgerton stacks Kaliniev on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Edgerton!

Edgerton has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Kaliniev is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Edgerton yanks on the arm and Kaliniev is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Edgerton.

After the fight, Joel Edgerton was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
