Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cain Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andy Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Patterson shoots in for a takedown but Velasquez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Velasquez stuffs the takedown.
Velasquez tries for a takedown but Patterson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Patterson doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Velasquez counters by clinching up.
Cain Velasquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andy Patterson.

Velasquez turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Velasquez manages to end up in side control.
Patterson tries to buck Velasquez off but Velasquez is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Patterson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Velasquez tries to score with some ground and pound. Patterson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Velasquez cracks Patterson with a big elbow.
Velasquez lands a decent elbow from side control.
Velasquez creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Patterson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Patterson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Patterson looks gassed!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Patterson is looking to reverse the position.
Patterson can't do much from the bottom here.
Velasquez throws a strike aimed at the side of Patterson's head but Patterson avoids it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Velasquez scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Patterson to see if he's OK.
Velasquez lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Patterson down.
Velasquez cracks Patterson with a big right hand but Patterson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Velasquez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Velasquez lands a nice forearm strike.
Velasquez lands a strong strike to the head of Patterson. That's dazed him! Velasquez looking to finish here. Patterson is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Velasquez lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
