PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Julian Hayman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Julian Hayman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bobby Burns!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hayman looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Burns is fending him off so far but Hayman persists. Nope, Burns circles away and we're back to standing.
Hayman lands a jab to the nose.
Hayman is looking to clinch.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Hayman checks a leg kick.

Burns moves into range and clinches up with Hayman.

Hayman turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Hayman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Burns bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Hayman scores with a shot to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Burns tries for a takedown but Hayman sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Hayman lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Hayman feints and as Burns raises his hands in defense, Hayman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burns wants to sweep here but Hayman controlling him for the moment.
Hayman is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burns avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Burns throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.
Hayman postures up in Burns's guard and throws a big left but Burns blocks it.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Burns holds on and takes a little breather.

Burns has his foot on Hayman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hayman works his way back into a safe position though.

Hayman stands up and waves to Burns to follow him.

Burns gets a double leg takedown into Hayman's guard.

Hayman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hayman being controlled here, momentarily.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Burns counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Hayman is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Burns slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Burns passes into half guard.

Burns thows a huge punch but Hayman dodges it nicely.
Burns throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Bobby Burns.
Burns fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Burns tries to clinch but Hayman moves out of range.

Burns closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hayman to the mat! Hayman manages to get full guard.
Burns tries to free his leg and advance position but Hayman is retaining full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hayman is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bobby Burns will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Burns misses with a series of wild punches.
Hayman cracks Burns with an open hand slap.
Hayman scores with a sloppy right hand. Burns should have avoided that one.
Hayman tries to close the distance and clinch but Burns swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Burns takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Hayman tries to clinch up but Burns circles away and keeps his distance.
Burns throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hayman scores with a one two! Burns had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Burns throws a right hand that misses
and Hayman counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Burns throws a leg kick but Hayman checks it.

Burns dives in and scores a takedown into Hayman's guard.
Hayman wants to stand up but Burns is controlling him.
Hayman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Burns's guard.
Burns looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Hayman works over Burns with some ground and pound from guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burns is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Burns thows a huge punch but Hayman dodges it nicely.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Burns passes the guard and advances to mount!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Burns is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hayman can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burns sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Let's hope that Burns has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Burns is stalling here but it's allowed Hayman to get half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Julian Hayman will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Hayman defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Burns.
Burns gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Hayman counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Hayman is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Burns drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Burnsis looking to pass into half guard but Hayman pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Hayman is in guard.
Hayman throwing strikes from guard but Burns blocks nicely.
Hayman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hayman won't allow Burns to sweep him here.
Burns controls Hayman momentarily but Hayman frees himself.

Hayman won't allow Burns to get back to his feet.

Burns must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Burns looking to score a takedown here. Hayman is defending well but Burns drives through and ends up in Hayman's guard.
Burns's corner is telling him to maintain position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bobby Burns hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Hayman tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Burns manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Burns shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Hayman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Burns controlling the action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bobby Burns comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Burns has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
