PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jon Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jon Silver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael James!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Sano and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silver shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Silver controlling the position easily from mount.
Silver moves to the back.
James breaks Silver's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Silver is keeping the position for now.
Silver wants to sweep here but James controlling him for the moment.
James trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Silver controls James momentarily but James frees himself.

James drops back looking for a leg! Silver is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Silver manages to kick James off! James jumps back into Silver's guard.
Silver wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Silver clinches with his opponent.
James goes for a takedown attempt but Silver pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Silver counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for James!

Silver wants to finish this one by submission but James is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Silver.
Silver wants to control the pace but James is squirming around nicely.
James keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Silver lands with some vicious ground and pound - can James hang on?

Silver trying to control but James is having none of it.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
James really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silver with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Silver lands a big shot there that rocks James but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
James can't escape the position.
James sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Silver looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
James is trying to get back to full guard.

Silver decides to return to a standing position.
Silver looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Silver counters with a shoot takedown. James fights it but they end up in guard.
Jon Silver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael James.

James throws his legs up looking for a submission but Silver uses it to pass to side control.
Silver wants to control but James is keeping him busy.

Silver wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by James, who protects the arm well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
James manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
James passes to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Silver dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and Silver counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
James wants to sweep here but Silver controlling him for the moment.
Silver trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Silver is sitting in close to James's body. James has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Silver is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Silver is tapping! That was a very nice submission by James.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Michael James!
