PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris Kamara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Santana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santana is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Apaga mais não bate( Jiu-jitsu ). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Santana!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santana gets the takedown into side control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kamara is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kamara preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Kamara is trying to control but can't.
Kamara gets full guard.
Kamara is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Santana engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Kamara keeping moving, preventing Santana from controlling successfully.

Kamara throws his legs up looking for a submission but Santana uses it to pass to side control.
Kamara is looking to regain half guard here but Santana keeps moving and retains side control.

Kamara manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Kamara wants to control but Santana is keeping him busy.

Kamara with the ground and pound but Santana uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Kamara passes Santana's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Santana is looking to control Kamara's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Santana avoid being mounted?

Kamara wants to take a breather but Santana is having none of it.
Santana wants to get back to his feet.

Kamara is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Santana is defending against the submission attempts here by Kamara.

Santana makes his way to full guard, as Kamara worked for a kimura.
Santana is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Santana keeping moving, preventing Kamara from controlling successfully.

Kamara stays in close to Santana's body and controls the position.
Kamara trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Santana tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kamara looking to pass the guard.
Kamara is looking to work some ground and pound but Santana has wrist control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Santana tries to clinch but Kamara moves away
and Kamara counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
A bone on bone clash there as Santana blocks the leg kick.
Diego Santana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Santana wants to clinch.

Santana forces Kamara back against the ropes and clinches.

Santana works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Kamara had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Santana defends it easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kamara looking for a guillotine here but Santana defends easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Santana stands up from Kamara's guard - Santana perhaps looking for a knockout.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Kamara will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Kamara counters with a shoot takedown. Santana fights it but they end up in guard.

Santana looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kamara has picked Santana up and slammed him! Santana can't keep hold of the triangle and Kamara manages to pass to side control!
Santana is letting Kamara control him for a moment.

Kamara is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Santana is trying to escape and Kamara transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Santana is forced to tap! Nice work there by Kamara! Very nice indeed!
