PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mertsi Peltola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Bull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peltola's entrance music is Waidmanns heil. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mertsi Peltola!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Steve Bull!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peltola throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bull tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Peltola is in Bull's guard.

Peltola won't allow Bull to sweep him here.

Peltola thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Bull is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bull is on top in guard.

Bull with a flurry of punches that miss.
Bull advances position into side control!

Bull wants to control but Peltola is keeping him busy.

Bull is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Bull stands up.
Peltola shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bull sprawls well. Bull wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Peltola gets slowly back to his feet.
Peltola throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bull's waist but Bull gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Peltola off to one side.
Peltola is breathing heavily.

Peltola on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Bull gets a takedown into half guard.
Peltola might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bull trying to control the action but Peltola is working from the bottom.
Bull tries to pass to full mount but Peltola defends it.

Bull is trying to control the action in half guard but Peltola is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Peltola makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Peltola.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Steve Bull hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bull throws a head kick but Peltola moves out of range.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Peltola.

and Bull counters with a nice double leg into side control. Peltola won't be happy with that.
Bull is working Peltola over with some ground and pound from side control.
Peltola is trying to escape the position but Bull is controlling the position.

Bull has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Bull rushes Peltola and presses him up against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bull jumps guard.
Bull pulls Peltola in close to prevent any damage.

Peltola drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bull manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Peltola has Bull in his guard.
Bull with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Bull is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Peltola is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bull engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Peltola knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bull on the ground.

We're going to have a standup here because Mertsi Peltola wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Peltola tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bull swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mertsi Peltola. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bull moves into the clinch.

Bull breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Peltola tries to clinch up but Bull circles away and keeps his distance.

Bull trying to control the position but instead, Peltola has worked for underhooks and has pushed Bull into the cage.

Peltola can't get the takedown.
Bull stalling in the clinch.
Bull has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Peltola after a bit of a struggle.
A frustrated look appears on Bull's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Bull escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Bull shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bull showed some decent athleticism there.
Bull wants to take a breather but Peltola is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bull postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Peltola to stand up.

Bull clinches up with Peltola and pushes him back against the cage.
Bull tries for a takedown but Peltola manages to get underhooks.
Bull wants to get back to striking at distance but Peltola won't allow it.

Peltola turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Peltola manages to end up in side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Peltola misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Peltola tries for a kimura but Bull is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bull sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Bull showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Peltola avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Peltola has a takedown stuffed.

Bull feints and as Peltola raises his hands in defense, Bull changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peltola is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Peltola has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bull is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Steve Bull was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Bull shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Steve Bull hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Bull wants to work for an arm triangle but Peltola is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Bull is keen to just control but Peltola is a slippery customer.
Bull passes the guard and advances to mount!

Bull tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Steve Bull is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Steve Bull comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bull has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
