PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Robert Langdon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deacon Griggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griggs has chosen Church by T-Pain as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Deacon Griggs will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robert Langdon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deacon Griggs!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Langdon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Griggs circles away.
Griggs misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Langdon.
Griggs lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Langdon circles away quickly and effectively.
A telegraphed right hand from Griggs misses the target.
A punch combination from Griggs misses.

Griggs shoots in and bounces Langdon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Langdon pulls Griggs in close to his closed guard and prevents Griggs from doing any damage or advancing position.
Griggs looking to sit in guard and control but Langdon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Langdon wants to pass the guard but Griggs is keeping the position.
Langdon passes Griggs's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Griggs has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Langdon is working away from the top position though.
Langdon with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Langdon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griggs keeps working.
Langdon missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Langdon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Langdon is trying to control the action in half guard but Griggs is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Griggs wants to control but Langdon passes into side.
Griggs manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Langdon wants to control but Griggs is keeping him busy.
Langdon uses his free foot to push down on Griggs's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Griggs.
Griggs is trying desperately to improve position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Langdon lands with some strikes.
Griggs is trying to escape the mount.
Langdon landing strikes from the mount.
Langdon looking to control and managing it successfully.
Langdon has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Langdon trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Langdon with the ground and pound from mount.
Langdon content just to control the position here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Langdon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Griggs for as long as he can get away with.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Griggs tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Langdon dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Langdon has a takedown stuffed.

Griggs gets caught napping as Langdon dives in and scores a takedown. Griggs manages to retain guard.
Robert Langdon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Langdon works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Griggs has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Langdon is working away from the top position though.

Griggs is looking to improve his position but Langdon isn't that keen on the idea.

Griggs takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Griggs is desperately trying to improve his position but Langdon has a good base and remains in mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Langdon controlling his opponent.

Langdon scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Griggs?
Langdon wants to control the pace but Griggs is squirming around nicely.
Griggs is trying to escape the mount.
Langdon scoring with strikes but Griggs is staying in there.
Langdon landing punches.

Langdon scores with a couple of good head shots there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Langdon breaks from Griggs's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Langdon trying to control but Griggs is having none of it.
Griggs slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Langdon is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Langdon postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Griggs bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Langdon and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robert Langdon!
