PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Knockout King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuri Trutnev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Knockout King looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Knockout King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yuri Trutnev!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksandr Martynov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
King throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

King tries to keep at a distance but Trutnev has taken the fight into the clinch.
Trutnev is leaning against King and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
A short uppercut from Trutnev.
King gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Trutnev.
A left hand lands to the body for Trutnev.
King is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A short left from Trutnev.

Trutnev jumps guard and drags King to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Trutnev has King pulled in close to control his posture.
King has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Trutnev scrambles and gets back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trutnev fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Trutnev misses with a two punch combination.
Trutnev changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. King tries to avoid it but Trutnev manages to keep hold of a leg and drag King to the ground. King escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Knockout King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yuri Trutnev.
King looks to land a left hand but Trutnev moved out of range nicely.
Trutnev shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Trutnev shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with King but King pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Trutnev shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. King defends it nicely.
Trutnev will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Trutnev blocks a jab.
A punch combination from Trutnev misses.
Trutnev throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent King stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Trutnev moves into the clinch.
Trutnev lands a body punch in the clinch.
Trutnev tries for a takedown. No joy.
King tries to pull guard but Trutnev won't allow it.
Trutnev stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
King has Trutnev pressed against the cage, preventing Trutnev from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
King can't break the clinch.
King gets underhooks to prevent Trutnev's takedown attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
King tries to pull guard but Trutnev forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Trutnev tightens his grip and picks King up, before dumping him to the ground. King manages to land in guard.
Trutnev wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
Trutnev loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trutnev is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
King can't keep his opponent in guard - Trutnev advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
King tries to kick Trutnev off but Trutnev keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trutnev throwing shots but King is blocking nicely.
King really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Trutnev missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Trutnev is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Trutnev throwing strikes here but King is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
King wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Trutnev.
King is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yuri Trutnev dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Trutnev lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but King circles away quickly and effectively.
Trutnev shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts King as he jumps to the side.
Trutnev misses with a kick to the body.
King throws an overhand right that lands on Trutnev's shoulder, as Trutnev tries to avoid the shot.
Yuri Trutnev is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
King jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Jab from King.
Horrible takedown by Trutnev or perhaps it was just good defense by King which made him look bad.
King throws a lazy right hand but Trutnev sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Trutnev has King up against the cage in a clinch.

Trutnev jumps guard.

King got a little sloppy there for a moment and Trutnev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, King has managed to get both his arms back between Trutnev's legs - danger averted.
Trutnev pulls King in close to prevent any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Trutnev has a closed guard, preventing King from standing up.
King throws an elbow that misses. Trutnev uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in King's guard. Nice move by Trutnev!
Trutnev in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Trutnev drops back, looking for a kneebar! King looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. King looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from King!
King in side control, throwing shots but Trutnev defends.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Trutnev is not content to let King control the position.

Trutnev bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Trutnev instigates a clinch.
Trutnev lands a shoulder strike.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Trutnev creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Still in the clinch, Trutnev scores with a nice short uppercut.
Trutnev lands with a light punch inside.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Trutnev is trying to break the clinch but King has him pressed against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trutnev is looking for a takedown.
Knockout King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yuri Trutnev.
King tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Trutnev smiles and moves away.

Trutnev gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Trutnev is looking to break free of the clinch but King has double underhooks.

Trutnev gets control of King's arms and successfully pulls guard. Trutnev will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Trutnev is pulling down on King's head. It's preventing any offense from King, at least for the moment.

Trutnev wriggles free and stands up.
King misses with a right hand

and Trutnev counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Trutnev wants a takedown but no success here.
Still in the clinch, Trutnev scores with a nice short uppercut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trutnev controlling the action here for a moment.
Trutnev looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Trutnev dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Trutnev is working for takedown but King is calmly controlling the position for now.
Trutnev stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Trutnev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Trutnev shoots in for a double leg but King sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

King misses with a straight right.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yuri Trutnev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! King's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Trutnev has taken the fight to the clinch.
Trutnev wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
King blocks the elbow strike.
Yuri Trutnev seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Trutnev gets through King's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
A frustrated look appears on Trutnev's face as he tries to break the clinch.
King tries to break the clinch but Trutnev is controlling the position.
King fails to pull guard.
Trutnev misses with an elbow strike.
Trutnev is pushing King up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
King tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Trutnev just stands there and leans against the cage.

Trutnev tightens his grip and picks King up, before dumping him to the ground. King manages to land in guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Trutnev wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trutnev is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Trutnev is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Trutnev trying to control but King is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Trutnev in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Trutnev is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Trutnev has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Yuri Trutnev wasn't active enough on the ground.

Trutnev has closed the distance and engaged King in a clinch.

Trutnev manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Trutnev has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
King wants to control from the top but Trutnev keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Trutnev has King pulled in close to control his posture.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Trutnev is on top in guard.
King preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
King knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Trutnev on the ground.
Trutnev chips away with some ground and pound.
Trutnev throwing strikes but missing.
King will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
King can't keep his opponent in guard - Trutnev advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Trutnev is looking for a kimura but King is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Trutnev to get the leverage.

Yuri Trutnev has got the better of the ground game so far.
Trutnev looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Yuri Trutnev is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Knockout King has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yuri Trutnev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Trutnev winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
