PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stu Harper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcello Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harper's entrance music is Long Way Round - Stereophonics. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Marcello Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Richard Clark and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Harper.
Good leg kick by Harper there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Harper shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sanchez sprawls well. Sanchez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Harper gets slowly back to his feet.
Sanchez on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Sanchez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Harper to the mat! Harper manages to get full guard.
Harper is looking to stand up but Sanchez isn't so interested in that idea.
Harper controls Sanchez momentarily but Sanchez frees himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Sanchez wants to control from the top but Harper keeps moving.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sanchez's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Sanchez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sanchez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Harper has Sanchez pulled in close to control his posture.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Sanchez is nestled in close to Harper, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Sanchez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Harper with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Stu Harper.
I think Sanchez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
