Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nick James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eddie Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alvarez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
James tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alvarez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Alvarez laying and praying for a moment but James takes advantage and regains half guard.

Alvarez is working for a submission of some sort.

James with the active half guard here but Alvarez passes nicely into side control.
Alvarez tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alvarez has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for James!
Alvarez manages to capitalize on a mistake by James to take his back!
I really don't envy James right now.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
James is trying to get back to his feet but Alvarez has full control of the position and if anything, James has just worked his way into a worse spot.

James is really stuck here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Alvarez is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
James tries to break free.

Alvarez is trying to stick to James's back but James is turning into Alvarez. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Alvarez's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by James.

James throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Alvarez escapes and throws James's legs to the side, diving into side control!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Alvarez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddie Alvarez dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Alvarez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Alvarez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Alvarez shoots for a takedown but James saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
James just misses with a punch to the body.
James with a jab.

James gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Alvarez to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Eddie Alvarez has got the better of the ground game so far.
Alvarez passes easily into side control. Nice work.
James trying to control but Alvarez flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
