PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steven Burnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Perfect (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Perfect shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Burnett napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Perfect landing a few strikes.
Burnett is trying to control Perfect 's posture but Perfect avoids it.

Perfect stands up and beckons Burnett to his feet.

Perfect gets tackled into the cage by Burnett. Burnett maintains the clinch.
Perfect drops down looking for an ankle pick but Burnett pulls his leg out and moves away.
Burnett is trying hard to land a takedown here. Perfect sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
No luck for Burnett with that takedown attempt.
Perfect doesn't manage to clinch there - Burnett circles away.

Burnett drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Perfect has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Perfect is trying to control Burnett's posture but Burnett avoids it.
Perfect gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Burnett wants to get back to his feet.

Perfect is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Burnett's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Burnett's back!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

It looks like Perfect might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Burnett might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mr Perfect .
Perfect shoots in looking for a takedown but Burnett manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Perfect 's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Perfect tries a head kick but it misses.
Burnett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Perfect swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Burnett. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Perfect shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Burnett as he jumps to the side.

Burnett moves into the clinch.

Perfect tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Burnett smiles and moves away.

Burnett moves into range and clinches up with Perfect .
Burnett wants to break the clinch but can't.

Burnett wants the takedown. Perfect is fighting it off but Burnett persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Perfect 's guard against the cage.
Perfect throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Burnett throws an elbow that misses. Perfect uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Burnett's guard. Nice move by Perfect !
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Perfect prevents Burnett from getting back to his feet.
Perfect stopping the sweep attempt from Burnett.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mr Perfect will probably get the nod.
That's time! Burnett's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Perfect takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Mr Perfect seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Perfect jumps guard and drags Burnett to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Perfect is trying to control the position but Burnett postures up.
Burnett wants to control from the top but Perfect keeps moving.
Burnett throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Perfect looking to hit a scissor sweep but Burnett is one step ahead there.
Burnett tries to stand but Perfect is controlling from the bottom.

Burnett controls from within his opponent's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Steven Burnett wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Burnett fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Perfect , pushing him back against the cage.

Perfect tries to pull guard but Burnett won't allow it.
Perfect is breathing heavily.
Perfect wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Burnett has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Burnett gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Perfect .
Burnett has had enough of the clinch but Perfect keeps him there for the moment.
Perfect with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Burnett prevents a body shot from Perfect .
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Burnett creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Burnett lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Perfect is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Burnett pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Steven Burnett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mr Perfect .
Perfect avoiding damage as Burnett throws knees to the body.

Burnett is trying to trip Perfect . He has hold of a leg but Perfect is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Burnett persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Burnett wants to stand but Perfect has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Burnett engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Burnett knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Perfect on the ground.

Burnett is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Perfect has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Burnett is looking to defend but Perfect has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Burnett! Perfect pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Burnett taps out and this one is all over!
