PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dmitriy Kosarev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mihail Fedorov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Dmitriy Kosarev has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Dmitriy Kosarev seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dmitriy Kosarev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Mihail Fedorov!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fedorov shoots in and drives through. Kosarev sprawls well.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fedorov enables Kosarev to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fedorov manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dmitriy Kosarev wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Kosarev shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kosarev avoids the head kick by Fedorov.

Kosarev throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Fedorov tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kosarev is in Fedorov's guard.

Kosarev wants to pass the guard but Fedorov is keeping the position.

Fedorov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kosarev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Kosarev has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Kosarev wants to control from the top but Fedorov keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dmitriy Kosarev.

and Kosarev counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Fedorov's guard now.

Kosarev avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Fedorov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kosarev's guard.

Kosarev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fedorov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fedorov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kosarev is working an open guard so Fedorov takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Mihail Fedorov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A head kick misses from Fedorov.

Fedorov closes the distance and clinches up with Kosarev, looking for a takedown. Fedorov pushes Kosarev against the cage but Kosarev circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Fedorov has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kosarev avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Dmitriy Kosarev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mihail Fedorov.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fedorov is trying to pull guard but Kosarev has him pressed against the cage.
Kosarev jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Fedorov walks away with a smile on his face. Kosarev gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kosarev.

Kosarev feints and as Fedorov raises his hands in defense, Kosarev changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dmitriy Kosarev will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Kosarev slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Fedorov manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Fedorov is breathing heavily.
Kosarev moves out of range of the body kick.
Fedorov tries to close the distance and clinch but Kosarev swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kosarev stuffs the takedown.
Fedorov swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Fedorov closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kosarev's guard.

Kosarev tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Dmitriy Kosarev overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kosarev is taking a breather. Fedorov says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fedorov is on top in guard.

Fedorov drops back looking for a leg! Kosarev is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kosarev manages to kick Fedorov off! Fedorov jumps back into Kosarev's guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Kosarev tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fedorov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kosarev gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Fedorov prevents Kosarev from improving his position.
Fedorov seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Fedorov works his way into side control.
Kosarev tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Fedorov presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Kosarev is desperately trying to improve his position but Fedorov has a good base and remains in mount.

Fedorov swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mihail Fedorov!
