The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Madeiros circles away quickly and effectively.
Cruz throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Madeiros connects with a single shot there.
Madeiros fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cruz looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Madeiros explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Madeiros shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Madeiros was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Madeiros tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Cruz on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cruz tries to get out of the position.

Madeiros working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Madeiros has hold of Cruz's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Cruz manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Madeiros is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Cruz can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Madeiros won't let Cruz get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Madeiros takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Madeiros's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Madeiros is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cruz is surviving well by controlling Madeiros's body position as best he can.

Madeiros has isolated one of Cruz's arms. Cruz looking to fight him off but Madeiros twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Duarte Madeiros decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
