PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cole Phelps (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Shamrock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Shamrock's choice of entrance music: The World's Most Dangerous Man. Cole Phelps could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Ken Shamrock's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cole Phelps!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ken Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shamrock shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Phelps but Phelps pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Shamrock swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Shamrock takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A big left from Phelps misses.
Phelps thuds his right hand into Shamrock's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Shamrock closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Shamrock escapes and gets back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Phelps connects with a jab.

Shamrock is rocked!
Phelps is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
A big right from Phelps misses.
Shamrock is still on wobbly legs! Can Phelps finish him?
Cole Phelps seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Phelps throws a big shot that misses.
Phelps really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The fighters circling - Phelps throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Shamrock clinches up with Phelps and pushes him back against the cage.
Shamrock tries to pull guard but Phelps won't allow it.
Shamrock has Phelps pressed against the cage, preventing Phelps from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Shamrock is trying to drag Phelps to the mat but Phelps just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Shamrock seems to have recovered his senses.
Cole Phelps has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Shamrock.
Shamrock slowing the pace effectively.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shamrock is trying to pull guard but Phelps turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Shamrock tries a body shot but Phelps blocks it.
Phelps is trying to push Shamrock away but Shamrock has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Phelps is trying to break the clinch but Shamrock is controlling him.
Phelps managing to block the knees to the body from Shamrock.

Shamrock has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Phelps uses from the top position.
Phelps knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shamrock on the ground.
Phelps would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Shamrock pulls Phelps in close to prevent any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shamrock tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Phelps thows a body shot but no joy.

Shamrock drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shamrock prevents Phelps from escaping the position.

Shamrock decides to stand back up.
Shamrock misses with a hook
and Phelps counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Phelps connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Shamrock momentarily.

Shamrock looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Phelps won't allow Shamrock to pass to mount.
Phelps pushes Shamrock off looking to stand but Shamrock dives back in and keeps control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shamrock is taking a breather. Phelps says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Shamrock stands up and beckons Phelps to join him on the feet.
Shamrock slips a straight right by Phelps.
Shamrock gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Phelps tries to bum rush Shamrock with a series of wild strikes but Shamrock uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Shamrock takes the fight into the clinch.

Shamrock breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ken Shamrock will probably get the nod.
That's time! Phelps's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Shamrock looks to land a combination but Phelps avoids it well.
Phelps throws a series of punches but Shamrock avoids them all with ease.

Shamrock feints and as Phelps raises his hands in defense, Shamrock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Shamrock prevents Phelps from getting back to his feet.
Phelps keeping full guard, as Shamrock tries to pass.
Shamrock throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Phelps wants to stand up but Shamrock is controlling him.
Shamrock content to stall in guard here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ken Shamrock was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Phelps lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Shamrock backs up against the cage.
Phelps cracks Shamrock with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Shamrock tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Phelps pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Shamrock is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cole Phelps!
An out of breath and clearly excited Cole Phelps thanked RMC - Rio Mma Clothing for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
