PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Draught Papillia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Hammar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hammar has chosen You are a douche as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Draught Papillia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Jack Hammar!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Hammar or perhaps it was just good defense by Papillia which made him look bad.
Hammar throws a sloppy head kick and Papillia moves out of range easily.

Papillia gets caught napping as Hammar dives in and scores a takedown. Papillia manages to retain guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hammar trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Hammar drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Papillia manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hammar has Papillia in his guard.
Papillia pushing down on Hammar's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Papillia is trying to control. Hammar wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Hammar is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Papillia's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Papillia's back!

Hammar is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Papillia knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Papillia for a finish.

Hammar goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Papillia escapes and is now in half guard on top.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Papillia in particular looking to stall.

Hammar is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Papillia pulls his head out easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Papillia is trying to control the action in half guard but Hammar is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Papillia has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Draught Papillia.

and Papillia counters with a left and a right that stings Hammar.

Draught Papillia is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Hammar rushes Papillia and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Hammar throws an elbow but misses.
Hammar throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Papillia blocks it with crossed arms.
Hammar tries to land knees in the clinch but Papillia avoids the damage to the body.
Hammar pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Papillia lands a left hand that snaps the head of Hammar backwards.

Papillia breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Some bone on bone action there as Hammar checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Papillia fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Hammar throws a head kick that misses.
Papillia lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Hammar looks to clinch
and Papillia counters with a nice uppercut.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Hammar.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Papillia takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

It looks like Draught Papillia has been cut.
Papillia is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Papillia tries to circle away but Hammar has him pinned against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Papillia breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Papillia fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hammar sprawls well initially but Papillia persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hammar is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Papillia jumps into side control!

Hammar is looking for a sweep. Papillia is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hammar is wriggling around trying to escape.
Papillia lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Papillia tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Hammar is in a horrible position here. Papillia smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's time! Papillia's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


The fighters circle momentarily. Papillia darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Hammar connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Papillia to the floor! Hammar dives in looking for the finish!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hammar is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Papillia has managed to free his arm - good work.
Oh Papillia is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Papillia has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hammar is working away from the top position though.
Papillia is looking to improve his position.
Papillia seems to have got his legs back now.

Hammar is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Papillia is just riding it out for now. Hammar eventually gives up the hold.

Hammar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Papillia swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hammar throws a strike but Papillia rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hammar looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Papillia has picked Hammar up and slammed him! Hammar can't keep hold of the triangle and Papillia manages to pass to side control!

Hammar is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Hammar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Papillia is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Hammar is wriggling around trying to escape.

Hammar is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Hammar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hammar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
