Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tyrese Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tyrese Reed had a look across the ring there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyrese Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matt Santos!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reed throws a head kick but Santos moves out of range.

Reed bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Sloppy strikes there by Reed.
Santos is not content to let Reed control the position.
An elbow from Reed crashes against the mat.
Santos regains half guard.
Reed trying to control the action but Santos is working from the bottom.
Santos gets back to full guard.
Santos is trying to keep Reed in close.
Reed has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Santos avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Santos controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Santos is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Reed tries to kick Santos off but Santos keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Reed tries to roll over but Santos keeps him under control.
Santos passes the guard and advances to mount!
Reed can't escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reed wants to hold on but Santos pushes him away.

Santos gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Santos cracks Reed with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Reed.
Reed shoots in for a double leg but Santos sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Santos closes the distance and clinches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Santos's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Reed fails with an attempt to clinch.
Reed tries for a takedown but Santos sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyrese Reed. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Reed is breathing heavily.
Reed shoots in looking for a takedown but Santos manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Reed's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Reed shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Santos but Santos pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Santos drives through with a takedown into Reed's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Santos seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Santos is standing up over Reed. Reed looks to escape but Santos dives into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Santos decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Santos forces Reed back against the ropes and clinches.
Reed takes a knee to the side of the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Reed is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Santos has clasped his hands together around Reed's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Santos remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Santos has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Santos clinches up with Reed and pushes him back against the ropes.

It looks like Tyrese Reed has been cut.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Santos prevents the takedown attempt.

Santos lands a big knee to the head and Reed goes down! Santos pounces and finishes the fight with strikes! He jumps to his feet and celebrates with the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Matt Santos!
