PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Flaubert Canto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Klaus Krause (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Krause comes into a darkened arena with his song building. How Much Is The Fish kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Klaus Krause enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Flaubert Canto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Klaus Krause!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Canto uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Krause.
Canto keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Canto bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Canto is looking to clinch.
Canto throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Canto slips under a jab.
Canto tries to clinch there but Krause circles away.
Krause misses with an uppercut.
Krause avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Krause wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Canto scores a takedown into full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Krause tries to lock up and control but Canto gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like Klaus Krause has been cut.
Krause is trying to escape the mount.

Canto's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee warns Krause that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Krause is trying desperately to improve position.
Canto lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Krause is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Krause sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Come on Canto - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Canto looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Krause tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Canto's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Krause connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Canto moves out of range as Krause strikes.

Canto uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Krause.
Canto moves in looking to clinch but Krause pushes him off.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Canto crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Krause - the referee stops the clock and Canto gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Krause. Canto manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

and Canto counters with a stiff right hand.
Krause misses with a hook. Canto ducked under it nicely.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Canto fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Krause manages to avoid it.
Canto ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

A lazy left from Canto finds it's target.


That has opened up Klaus Krause's cut even more.
Krause lands a right hook to the body.
Krause swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Krause lands a jab.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Canto tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Krause manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Canto fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Krause, pushing him back against the cage.

Canto lands a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Flaubert Canto dominated that round.

That's time! Back to the action!

Canto lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Krause moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Canto decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Krause lands with a good body shot.

Canto looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Krause!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Krause bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Flaubert Canto overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Krause lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
A frustrated look appears on Canto's face as he tries to break the clinch.

The crowd cheers as Krause lands an impressive looking overhand right. Canto doesn't seem phased though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Canto tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Canto tries to close the distance and clinch up but Krause swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Canto takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Krause misses with a straight right.
Nice defenses there by Krause.
Canto is looking to clinch.
Krause lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Krause tries to land a front kick but Canto steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Krause swings for the body but Canto moves out of range.
Canto misses with an uppercut. Krause saw that one coming.
Krause throws a body punch but Canto moves out of range.
Canto tries to clinch but Krause moves out of range.
Canto looks to land a combination but Krause avoids it well.
Krause thows a body shot but no joy.

Canto feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Canto knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Krause on the ground.

A looping hook to the body misses from Krause. Canto does a little dance to reset his feet.

Canto stands up from Krause's guard - Canto perhaps looking for a knockout.
Flaubert Canto is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

and Krause finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Klaus Krause has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Canto turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Canto manages to end up in side control.
Canto remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Flaubert Canto showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Canto, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
