Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Asmund (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mark Asmund is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bas Rutten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Asmund!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, William Gold and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutten circles away from the clinch attempt.
Asmund looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rutten is fending him off so far but Asmund persists. Nope, Rutten circles away and we're back to standing.
Asmund is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Rutten drives through with a takedown into guard.

Asmund working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rutten doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rutten manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Asmund fails to pull guard.
Rutten with a knee to the head.
Rutten gets underhooks to prevent Asmund's takedown attempt.
Bas Rutten has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Asmund.

Rutten throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Asmund blocks it with crossed arms.
Asmund goes for a takedown attempt but Rutten pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Rutten takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Asmund has taken the fight to the clinch.
Asmund can't get the takedown.
Asmund stops a takedown attempt from Rutten.
The referee calls for Rutten to work.
Asmund is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Asmund can't break the clinch.
Asmund tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rutten smiles and moves away.
Rutten slips a straight right by Asmund.

Asmund fails with the takedown

and Rutten counters with a nice double leg into side control. Asmund won't be happy with that.
Asmund takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Rutten is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Asmund is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Asmund gets back to half guard.
Asmund wants to get back to full guard.
Rutten lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Ground and pound from Rutten.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rutten lands a nice short elbow.
Asmund tries to roll over but Rutten keeps him under control.

Asmund looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Asmund manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Asmund misses with an attempted mid kick.
Asmund closes the distance but Rutten moves to the side

so Rutten counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Asmund looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Rutten passes into side control.

Asmund manages to get back to half guard.
Rutten is nestled in close to Asmund, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Asmund wants to get back to full guard.
Asmund keeping control of the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Asmund has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rutten is working away from the top position though.

Rutten working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Asmund's thigh. Asmund counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Rutten's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Rutten content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rutten avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rutten trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Asmund trying to keep a closed guard but Rutten is proving a slippery customer.
Asmund wants to improve his position but instead Rutten has moved into half guard.
Asmund moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Asmund controls Rutten momentarily but Rutten frees himself.

Rutten gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Rutten tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Asmund counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Asmund shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Asmund was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Asmund wants to take his opponent's back but Rutten doesn't allow it.

Rutten is trying desperately to improve position.

Asmund looking for a guillotine from mount but Rutten is having none of it.

Asmund has hold of Rutten's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rutten manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Asmund jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Rutten manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Asmund gets to mount! Rutten was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Asmund is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Rutten scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Rutten tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rutten takes a little break here. Asmund wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bas Rutten dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Rutten scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Rutten is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Asmund wants to control but Rutten is keeping busy.
Asmund is staying active underneath Rutten, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Asmund is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rutten's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rutten's back!

Asmund is persistently looking for the submission but Rutten is defending it well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Asmund is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Rutten has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Asmund is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Rutten knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Rutten for a finish.

Asmund cracks Rutten with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Rutten from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Asmund postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

and Rutten counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Rutten has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Asmund avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Asmund jumps guard but Rutten stands there with Asmund around his waist. Asmund gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rutten tries to land a knee to the head but Asmund blocks with his arms.
Asmund wants to break free but Rutten has control.
Rutten has Asmund pressed against the cage.
Rutten prevents the takedown attempt.

Rutten tries to pull guard but Asmund holds him up against the cage and eventually Rutten drops back down to his feet.

Mark Asmund comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rutten has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
