PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Adrian Parker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Mercury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mercury has chosen you got another thing comin' as his entrance music. Mark Mercury told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Adrian Parker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Mercury!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mercury fails in his attempt to clinch.

Parker clinches up against the cage.

Parker manages to pull guard.
Mercury passes Parker's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Parker regains full guard. Nicely done.
Parker wants to sweep but no luck.
Mercury working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Mercury pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Parker is keeping the position for now.

Parker working for a triangle but Mercury defends it easily.
Parker on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Parker tries to get out of the position.
Mercury wants to control from the top but Parker keeps moving.
Mercury would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Parker looking to control.
Parker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mercury gets a takedown into half guard.

Mercury throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Mercury is looking for a kimura here.

Parker has one foot on Mercury's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Parker gets a clinch.
Parker tries to pull guard but Mercury holds him up against the cage and eventually Parker drops back down to his feet.

Parker manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Parker looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mercury wanted to stand there but Parker had control of the position.
Mercury postures up in Parker's guard and throws a big left but Parker blocks it.

Parker keeping full guard, as Mercury tries to pass.

Parker is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Parker is breathing heavily.
Mercury working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Parker's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mercury with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Parker wants to sweep here but Mercury controlling him for the moment.
Parker can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mercury controls the pace.

Parker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mercury with a nice head shot there.

Mercury stands up over Parker, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Parker keeping moving, preventing Mercury from controlling successfully.

Parker is working an open guard so Mercury takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
A head kick misses from Mercury.
Mercury wants to clinch

and Parker counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Parker.

Mercury lands a takedown into guard.
Parker controls Mercury momentarily but Mercury frees himself.
Parker keeping full guard, as Mercury tries to pass.

Parker has his foot on Mercury's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mercury works his way back into a safe position though.
Mercury throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Parker throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Parker wants to stand and escape but Mercury is having none of it.
Parker seems keen to control Mercury's posture.

Parker had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Mercury is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Parker Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Mercury's back instead.

Mercury is trying to defend against the choke here but Parker has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Parker Tightens the hold and Mercury taps out furiously! Parker displays superior BJJ to win the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Adrian Parker!
