PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Tiongson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hakeem Jabbar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Tiongson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Hakeem Jabbar!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Sam Margolis and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jabbar rushes Tiongson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Tiongson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Jabbar prevents it.

Jabbar manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Jabbar is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jabbar wants to sweep here but Tiongson controlling him for the moment.
Tiongson throwing strikes from guard but Jabbar blocks nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tiongson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jabbar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tiongson tries to avoid it but Jabbar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tiongson to the ground. Tiongson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Jabbar using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Tiongson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Jabbar is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Tiongson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Jabbar is defending well.

It looks like Dave Tiongson has been cut.

Tiongson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jabbar to keep the fight standing.

Jabbar breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Tiongson misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Tiongson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Tiongson dives in and grabs Jabbar's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jabbar pushes down on Tiongson's head and hops out.
Tiongson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jabbar avoids it really well and circles away.
Tiongson avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Tiongson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Jabbar pushes off an throws an elbow but Tiongson leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Jabbar gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Tiongson.

Tiongson wants to stand but Jabbar is controlling his posture from full guard.

Tiongson trying to control the position from guard on top but Jabbar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tiongson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jabbar has a closed guard, preventing Tiongson from standing up.
Tiongson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Tiongson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jabbar on the ground.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Tiongson shoots for a double leg takedown but Jabbar sprawls well. He's pushed Tiongson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Tiongson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jabbar walks away with a smile on his face. Tiongson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Jabbar shoots in looking for a takedown. Tiongson tries to sprawl out of it but Jabbar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tiongson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hakeem Jabbar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Tiongson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jabbar's guard.
Tiongson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jabbar manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Tiongson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Jabbar is squirming around, avoiding Tiongson's attempts to control the action.
Hakeem Jabbar is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Tiongson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jabbar is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dave Tiongson.
I think Jabbar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Hakeem Jabbar thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
