PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rick Flare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Forrest Gump (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flare's entrance music is Also Sprach Zarathustra. A fine choice. Gump is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Louie Armstrong - What a Wonderful World. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Forrest Gump!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flare has his takedown stuffed
letting Gump counter with a right hand.
Flare fails with a takedown attempt.
Flare ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gump moves away.
Flare avoids the head kick by Gump.
Gump looks to score with a jab to the body but Flare is just out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Flare.

Gump throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Gump lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Flare has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Flare and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Rick Flare will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Gump fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Flare has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Gump will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Flare fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gump manages to avoid it.
Forrest Gump seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Flare throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gump's waist but Gump gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Flare off to one side.
Gump throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Flare is defended easily by Gump.
Flare changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gump tries to avoid it but Flare manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gump to the ground. Gump escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rick Flare seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Flare will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Gump fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Flare.

Flare has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Gump.

Gump throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Flare tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gump is in Flare's guard.

Flare has his foot on Gump's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gump works his way back into a safe position though.

Gump shoots in and bounces Flare off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Gump looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Flare with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Gump decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Gump throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Flare shoots in looking for a takedown but Gump manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Flare's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Flare closes the distance and clinches up with Gump, looking for a takedown. Flare pushes Gump against the cage but Gump circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Flare swings around for an armbar but Gump sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Flare's guard.

Flare is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gump is looking to control Flare's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gump avoid being mounted?
