PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between JJ The Tank (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephan Bonnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stephan Bonnar is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, JJ The Tank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stephan Bonnar!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Anthony Taglia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Tank tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bonnar swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A jab from The Tank misses.
The Tank throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bonnar's waist but Bonnar gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing The Tank off to one side.
The Tank tries to clinch but Bonnar moves out of range.
The Tank wants to clinch.
The Tank fails in his attempt to clinch.
The Tank tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bonnar swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The Tank fails with the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bonnar checks a low kick from The Tank.
The Tank changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bonnar tries to avoid it but The Tank manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bonnar to the ground. Bonnar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JJ The Tank. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bonnar is looking to control The Tank's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bonnar avoid being mounted?
Bonnar flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Bonnar misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Bonnar is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
The Tank is controlling the pace.

Bonnar tries to roll over but The Tank keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bonnar moves into full guard.
The Tank wants to control from the top but Bonnar keeps moving.
The Tank throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The Tank loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Bonnar keeping moving, preventing The Tank from controlling successfully.
The Tank looking to sit in guard and control but Bonnar gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The Tank is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Bonnar throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bonnar is looking for a sweep. The Tank is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bonnar wants to get back to his feet.
Bonnar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bonnar regains full guard. Nicely done.
Bonnar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The Tank is looking to stand up but Bonnar won't let him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The Tank trying to control the position from guard on top but Bonnar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that JJ The Tank will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Bonnar moves out of range of the body kick from The Tank.
JJ The Tank is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Horrible takedown by The Tank or perhaps it was just good defense by Bonnar which made him look bad.
A combination from The Tank does no damage.
The Tank throws a nice looking combination but Bonnar bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Bonnar avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

The Tank shoots in looking for a takedown. Bonnar tries to sprawl out of it but The Tank keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bonnar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The Tank misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bonnar.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from The Tank.
The Tank is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The Tank wants to clinch up but Bonnar keeps it at a distance.
Bonnar swats away the attempt to clinch by The Tank.
The Tank moves in looking to clinch but Bonnar pushes him off.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The Tank shoots in and drives through. Bonnar sprawls well.

Bonnar is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The Tank wants to stand but Bonnar has his arm trapped.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The Tank wants to control but Bonnar is keeping him busy.

Bonnar wants to get back to his feet but The Tank drags him back down.
Bonnar is looking for a sweep.

The Tank is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bonnar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
The Tank fails with the takedown.
The fight stays on the outside here - The Tank looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The Tank misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The Tank tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That was a close second round but I would say that JJ The Tank will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

It looks like JJ The Tank has been cut.
Bonnar drops a couple of huge strikes from the back position and The Tank is in real trouble here! Bonnar lands more strikes and the referee has to step in to end the fight! Bonnar is delighted!
