The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pearce slaps away a takedown attempt from Lopes, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Lopes defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pearce.
Lopes shoots for a double leg takedown but Pearce sprawls well. He's pushed Lopes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Pearce tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lopes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pearce somewhat.
Pearce checks a low kick from Lopes.
Lopes keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Pearce.
Lopes scores with a hook to the body. Pearce takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Pearce scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Pearce works his way into side control.

Pearce works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Lopes tries to buck Pearce off but Pearce is having none of it.
Pearce landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Pearce tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Lopes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pearce on the ground.
