PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Sandoval (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bogey James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bogey James told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Sandoval!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bogey James!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James rushes Sandoval and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
James has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sandoval avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

James jumps into guard, dragging Sandoval to the mat.
Sandoval trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sandoval postures up in James's guard and throws a big left but James blocks it.
James preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Sandoval tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.
James is trying to control the position but Sandoval postures up.

James is pressing down on Sandoval's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Sandoval passes James's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
James tries to get to full guard but Sandoval has control of the leg.
Sandoval wants to pass to mount but James is defending the position.
Sandoval throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
James is looking for a sweep. Sandoval is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sandoval working over James with some ground and pound. James looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Sandoval trying to advance position but James counters by regaining guard.

Sandoval postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
James is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James wants to stand and escape but Sandoval is having none of it.

Sandoval has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Sandoval postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

James stops Sandoval from passing to mount.
Sandoval creates some space and throws a big elbow, but James sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Sandoval tries to move to full mount but James actually manages to regain half guard.
Sandoval thows a huge punch but James dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James wants to get back to his feet.
Sandoval is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
James is pressing down on Sandoval's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

James pulls Sandoval in close to prevent any damage.

Sandoval got a little sloppy there for a moment and James has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sandoval has managed to get both his arms back between James's legs - danger averted.

James is trying to control the position from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sandoval lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
James is looking to stand up but Sandoval isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Sandoval misses with a takedown attempt

and James counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

James keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sandoval's head.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sandoval swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bogey James has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Sandoval gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and James counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sandoval won't be happy with that.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

James is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sandoval will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

James is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Sandoval has managed to free his arm - good work.
James is pressing down on Sandoval's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sandoval is holding on for now.
James thows a huge punch but Sandoval dodges it nicely.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with James in particular looking to stall.
James is looking to take a break and control but Sandoval is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
James tries to pass to full mount but Sandoval defends it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bogey James hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from James lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Sandoval has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Sandoval and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bogey James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Sandoval fails with the takedown

and James counters by clinching up.
James has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Sandoval after a bit of a struggle.
James has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sandoval avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

James decides to pull guard.
Sandoval wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.
Sandoval is looking to advance position but James has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

James tries to control but Sandoval wriggling away.
James is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Sandoval can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

James wants to control the pace but Sandoval is squirming around nicely.

James throws some wild stikes that Sandoval manages to avoid easily.

Bogey James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think James has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
