PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Morum Grock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leandro Damiao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Morum Grock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leandro Damiao!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Emerson Jorge and Thiago Cunha.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Damiao checks the leg kick nicely there.
Damiao tries to close the distance and clinch but Grock swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Damiao defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Grock.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Damiao enables Grock to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Damiao manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Damiao is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Grock is controlling him.
Grock is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Grock throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Damiao works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Morum Grock just wasn't active enough.

Grock lands a left and a right that send Damiao crashing to the mat, dazed. Grock thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Damiao tries to close the distance and clinch up but Grock swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Grock changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Damiao tries to avoid it but Grock manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Damiao to the ground. Damiao escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Damiao scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Grock doesn't seem bothered though.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Grock slips a jab and a cross from Damiao.
Grock lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Damiao circles away quickly and effectively.

Grock closes the distance and pushes Damiao back into the cage.

Damiao's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Grock.

Grock feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Grock is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Grock has gone for a leg lock! Damiao slips out almost immediately though and dives into Grock's guard.
Damiao must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Damiao accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Grock has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Damiao off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Damiao throws a right hand that Grock ducks under and follows up with a left that Grock also avoids with ease.

Grock is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Damiao.

Damiao rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Grock moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Grock shoots for a takedown but Damiao saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Damiao feints a jab promting Grock to slip. Damiao then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Grock slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Grock feints and as Damiao raises his hands in defense, Grock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Grock seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Grock is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Damiao is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
