The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas dives in and grabs Makhnov's left leg, looking for a takedown. Makhnov pushes down on Thomas's head and hops out.
Thomas looks for a takedown but Makhnov sprawls well.
Makhnov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Thomas.
Dimitri Makhnov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Thomas.

It looks like Mark Thomas has been cut.
Makhnov clobbers Thomas with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Makhnov lands with a hook. Thomas tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Makhnov throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Thomas.
Makhnov scores with a jab to the body.
Makhnov throws a body punch but Thomas moves out of range.
Makhnov misses with a body shot.
Nice takedown defense from Makhnov. No joy for Thomas on that attempt.

A short body shot lands from Makhnov as the two fighters clinch.
Makhnov is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Thomas is defending well for now.

Makhnov using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Thomas has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thomas tries to score a body lock takedown but Makhnov shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Thomas has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Makhnov is trying to keep an underhook but Thomas manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Makhnov is concentrating on defense, preventing Thomas from advancing position.

Makhnov drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Makhnov seems to have locked his on tight now - Thomas screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Makhnov, as he picks up the win!

Dimitri Makhnov decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
