PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andre Perkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Twitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Don Twitchell struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andre Perkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Don Twitchell!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, John Roberts and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Twitchell shoots for a double leg takedown but Perkins sprawls well. He's pushed Twitchell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Perkins looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Twitchell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Perkins swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Perkins fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Twitchell to the ground. Perkins is now in Twitchell's guard.
Perkins slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Twitchell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Don Twitchell has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Twitchell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Perkins swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Twitchell fails with an attempt to clinch.
Twitchell shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Perkins but Perkins pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Perkins shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Twitchell is trying to defend but Perkins finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Twitchell trying to control from the bottom.
Twitchell gets back to full guard.
Perkins trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Twitchell is on top in guard.

Twitchell gets to his feet. Perkins looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Twitchell moves into range and clinches up with Perkins.

Twitchell jumps guard and drags Perkins to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Twitchell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Perkins with a flurry of punches that miss.
Perkins is looking to work some ground and pound but Twitchell has wrist control.
Perkins throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Twitchell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Perkins won't allow Twitchell to sweep him here.
Twitchell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Perkins controls the pace.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Twitchell wants to sweep but no luck.
Perkins controlling from the top position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Twitchell shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Andre Perkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Don Twitchell.

Twitchell shoots and misses

so Perkins counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Twitchell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Perkins controls the pace.
Perkins's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Twitchell scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Twitchell fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Twitchell shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Perkins defends it nicely.
Perkins keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Perkins scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Twitchell sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Twitchell wants to control but Perkins is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Perkins in particular looking to stall.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Perkins lands a nice short elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andre Perkins dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Perkins misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Perkins avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Perkins defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Twitchell.
Twitchell tries for a takedown but Perkins circles away easily

and Perkins decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Twitchell's guard.
Twitchell avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Perkins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Twitchell on the ground.

Twitchell has his foot on Perkins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Perkins works his way back into a safe position though.
Perkins's corner is telling him to maintain position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Perkins trying to control the position from guard on top but Twitchell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Twitchell wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Andre Perkins just wasn't active enough.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Twitchell.
Andre Perkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Don Twitchell.
Twitchell fails in his attempt to clinch.

Perkins feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Perkins avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Twitchell throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Perkins keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Twitchell's head.

Perkins stays in close to Twitchell's body and controls the position.
Perkins throws a big elbow that misses.
Twitchell keeping moving, preventing Perkins from controlling successfully.
Twitchell working a defensive guard here.

Perkins is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Twitchell has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Perkins is looking to defend but Twitchell has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Perkins! Twitchell pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Perkins taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Don Twitchell!
Don Twitchell decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
