PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Beaumont McHale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Pynchon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Thomas Pynchon was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Beaumont McHale!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Pynchon!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from McHale misses.
Some wild striking there from Pynchon.
McHale avoids a punch combination nicely.
A combination from McHale does no damage.
Pynchon rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McHale moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Pynchon looking to score a takedown here. McHale is defending well but Pynchon drives through and ends up in McHale's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
McHale controls Pynchon momentarily but Pynchon frees himself.
McHale wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
McHale avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pynchon working some strikes from top position.
McHale seems keen to control Pynchon's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Beaumont McHale wasn't doing enough on the ground.

McHale is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Pynchon's half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pynchon can do anything to dispel that myth.
Pynchon controlling the position well.
Pynchon tries to get to full guard but McHale has control of the leg.
McHale stalling.
Pynchon wants to control but McHale is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pynchon tries to roll over but McHale keeps him under control.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
McHale throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Pynchon trying to control from the bottom.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Pynchon is trying to defend against the ground and pound but McHale scores with a couple of nice shots.
Pynchon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McHale. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McHale scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
McHale seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pynchon does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
McHale lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Pynchon keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pynchon is looking to improve his position.
McHale slips a nice elbow through Pynchon's hands, connecting with Pynchon's forehead.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Beaumont McHale.
I think McHale has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Beaumont McHale made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
