PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Corozzo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Hayrapetyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bobby Corozzo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Hayrapetyan!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Corozzo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hayrapetyan is trying to improve his position.

Corozzo decides to stand back up. Corozzo steps back and let's Hayrapetyan get back to his feet.

Corozzo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Corozzo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hayrapetyan, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hayrapetyan looks for the body kick but Corozzo saw that one coming.
Hayrapetyan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hayrapetyan buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Corozzo.
Hayrapetyan bucks up and tries to throw Corozzo off but instead Corozzo has got his back!
Corozzo keeps control of the position easily here as Hayrapetyan tries to buck him off.
Corozzo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hayrapetyan on the ground.

Corozzo is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Hayrapetyan has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Hayrapetyan is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Corozzo.
Corozzo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bobby Corozzo has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Corozzo takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A nice leg kick lands there from Hayrapetyan.
Hayrapetyan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Corozzo gets a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Hayrapetyan's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Hayrapetyan is trying to break the clinch but Corozzo is controlling him.
Hayrapetyan wants to get back to striking at distance but Corozzo won't allow it.
Hayrapetyan tries to pull guard but Corozzo holds him up against the cage and eventually Hayrapetyan drops back down to his feet.

Corozzo turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Corozzo manages to end up in side control.
Corozzo is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Hayrapetyan's shoulder. That is not cool.
Hayrapetyan pushes Corozzo away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Corozzo gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Hayrapetyan is breathing heavily.

Corozzo takes a little break here. Hayrapetyan wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Corozzo throws a strike aimed at the side of Hayrapetyan's head but Hayrapetyan avoids it well.
Bobby Corozzo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Corozzo takes a little break here. Hayrapetyan wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bobby Corozzo.
Corozzo avoids a kick to the body.
Hayrapetyan keeps Corozzo at a distance using the push kick.
Corozzo takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Hayrapetyan throws a sloppy head kick and Corozzo moves out of range easily.

Hayrapetyan finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Hayrapetyan tries to sprawl but Corozzo drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Corozzo is controlling the pace.
Corozzo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hayrapetyan for as long as he can get away with.

Corozzo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Corozzo stands up and beckons Hayrapetyan to join him on the feet.

Hayrapetyan gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Corozzo to score an easy takedown into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Corozzo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hayrapetyan scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Hayrapetyan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hayrapetyan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Corozzo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hayrapetyan, pushing him back against the cage.

Corozzo has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Hayrapetyan is trying to keep an underhook but Corozzo manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Corozzo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hayrapetyan's head.
Corozzo is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Bobby Corozzo just wasn't active enough.
Hayrapetyan fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
David Hayrapetyan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hayrapetyan connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Corozzo closes the distance and pushes Hayrapetyan back into the cage.

Corozzo manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Hayrapetyan tries to reverse the position but Corozzo maintains control.
Hayrapetyan is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Corozzo has control of Hayrapetyan's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hayrapetyan regains control of the situation pretty easily.
David Hayrapetyan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bobby Corozzo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hayrapetyan takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Bobby Corozzo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Corozzo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Bobby Corozzo decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
