PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Suzuki Minowa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Abbott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abbott has chosen War Ensemble - Slayer as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Suzuki Minowa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Abbott!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Minowa throws a series of punches but Abbott avoids them all with ease.
Abbott tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Minowa paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Abbott feints and as Minowa raises his hands in defense, Abbott changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Minowa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Abbott seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Abbott postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Minowa is looking to stand up but Abbott isn't so interested in that idea.
Abbott has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

It looks like Suzuki Minowa has been cut.

Minowa scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Abbott doesn't seem bothered though.
Minowa's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Abbott connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Minowa scrambles back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Abbott with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Minowa to score with a decent uppercut.
Suzuki Minowa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Abbott closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Minowa's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Abbott controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Abbott lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Minowa on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Minowa tries to get out of the position.
Abbott is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Mark Abbott has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Abbott misses with a hook. Minowa ducked under it nicely.

Abbott shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Suzuki Minowa's cut is getting worse.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Abbott can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Minowa is looking to escape.

Minowa wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Abbott.
Minowa tries to buck Abbott off but he can't manage it.

Abbott takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Suzuki Minowa's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Suzuki Minowa's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Mark Abbott!
An out of breath Mark Abbott thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
