PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dino Disalvo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dino Disalvo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Martin!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Eddie Farnsworth and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin misses with a double jab.

Disalvo closes the distance and clinches.
With the fighters up against the cage, Martin throws an elbow but misses.

Martin breaks from the clinch.
Martin throws a wild body kick that Disalvo sees coming a mile off.
Martin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Disalvo tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Martin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Disalvo's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Martin wants to stand but Disalvo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Disalvo pushes Martin off and scrambles back to his feet.
Martin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Disalvo counters by clinching up.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Martin gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Disalvo is looking to stand up but Martin isn't so interested in that idea.
Disalvo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Martin is one step ahead there.

Disalvo controlling the position.

Disalvo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Martin defends well.
Martin is fighting to break Disalvo's control of his arms but Disalvo is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Martin postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dino Disalvo has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Disalvo tries to keep at a distance but Martin has taken the fight into the clinch.
Martin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Martin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Disalvo throws a sloppy head kick and Martin moves out of range easily.
Disalvo shoots in for a takedown but Martin shows good takedown defense.
Disalvo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Martin defends it nicely.

Martin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Martin tries to clinch up.

Disalvo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Martin pinned against the cage. Martin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dino Disalvo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Martin looks to score with a jab to the body but Disalvo is just out of range.
Disalvo is looking to clinch.

Martin moves into range and clinches up with Disalvo.
Martin fails to pull guard.
Martin jumps guard but Disalvo turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Disalvo jumps into guard, dragging Martin to the mat.
Martin wants to stand but Disalvo is controlling his posture from full guard.

Martin drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Disalvo dives on top into guard.

Martin wants to get back to his feet but Disalvo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Martin is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Disalvo trying to control but Martin is working from the bottom.
Martin is looking to sweep but instead, Disalvo has passed into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Disalvo passes to full mount!
Disalvo wants to control the pace but Martin is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Martin dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Disalvo moves out of range of the body kick.
Disalvo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Martin clinches up with Disalvo and pushes him back against the cage.

Disalvo turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Martin is trying to control Disalvo's posture but Disalvo avoids it.
Martin tries to buck Disalvo off but Disalvo is having none of it.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Martin is trying to get back to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Martin can do anything to dispel that myth.

Disalvo trying to control the action but Martin is working from the bottom.
Disalvo working away.
Martin tries to improve position but can't.
Martin tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Disalvo wants to control the pace but Martin is squirming around nicely.
Martin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Disalvo throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Martin because Disalvo loaded up on that one.
Martin tries to control the position but Disalvo now has his back.
Disalvo not allowing Martin to control his hands.
Martin is trying to break free.
Martin just trying to survive but Disalvo is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Martin tries to escape but Disalvo has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Disalvo struggling to keep hold of the position.

Disalvo has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Martin has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Martin wants to get back to his feet.
Martin rolls, trying to escape but Disalvo keeps control of the position.
Martin is trying to stand back up.

Martin prevents Disalvo from getting a body triangle.
Martin trying to control the hands but Disalvo breaks the grip.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Disalvo controlling well, preventing Martin from escaping the position.
Disalvo slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

A close second round but Josh Martin will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Disalvo is refusing to be controlled, as Martin sits in half guard.
Martin misses with a head shot. Disalvo uses the momentum to regain guard.
Martin wants to stand and escape but instead Disalvo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Martin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Disalvo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Martin wants to stand up but Disalvo is controlling him.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Martin holds on and takes a little breather.

Martin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Disalvo defends well.
Martin wants to hit a switch here but Disalvo passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Martin there!

Josh Martin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Martin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
