PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Randall Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Hate not Gone as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Nick Jones was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Randall Stevens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Jones!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevens fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away.
Jones looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Jones throws a right and a left that both miss.

Jones throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Stevens tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jones is in Stevens's guard.
Stevens trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.
Jones has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Stevens is proving hard to escape from.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stevens pushes Jones off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Stevens lands with a shot to the body.
Stevens shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jones pinned against the cage. Jones gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stevens throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stevens off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Randall Stevens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones lands a nice leg kick that just misses Stevens's sensitive parts.
The fight stays on the outside here - Stevens looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Stevens feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Stevens throws a big right hand that misses.
Stevens trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Jones is trying to control the position but Stevens postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Randall Stevens.
Jones throws an off balance right hand

and Stevens holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Stevens gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Stevens decides to pull guard.
Jones looking to sit in guard and control but Stevens gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Stevens is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Stevens tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stevens landing some decent shots from guard.
Stevens passes into half guard.
Jones is in trouble now - Stevens has advanced to mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Stevens is landing with some decent strikes but Jones is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Stevens pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jones tries to lock up and control but Stevens gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Stevens controlling the pace for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randall Stevens dominated that round.
That's time! Stevens's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Stevens pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Stevens lands with a shot to the body.
Stevens uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Jones.

Stevens darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Stevens is trying to control the action in half guard but Jones is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stevens stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Jones to get to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones keeps the fight on the outside.
Stevens shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Stevens counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Jones!
Stevens dominating with strikes here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stevens working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Jones wants to try and get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stevens content just to control the position here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stevens trying to control but Jones is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stevens is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jones is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Stevens gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Stevens drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Stevens controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Stevens drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Stevens as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Jones screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Stevens! Nice submission victory there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Randall Stevens!
