PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Hartlock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vic Vantrell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hartlock comes to the cage accompanied by Shoot to Thrill - AC/DC. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Vantrell. No joy for Hartlock on that attempt.
Vantrell shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hartlock as he jumps to the side.
Hartlock throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Vantrell bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Vantrell goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Hartlock rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Vantrell's guard! Nice work there by Hartlock!

Hartlock is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Vantrell is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Vantrell has escaped and now he's on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hartlock is looking to improve his position but Vantrell isn't that keen on the idea.

Vantrell with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Hartlock manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Vantrell is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hartlock is just riding it out for now. Vantrell eventually gives up the hold.
Vantrell moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Hartlock.

Vantrell misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Hartlock is trying to get back to half guard.
Hartlock avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Vantrell.
Vantrell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hartlock keeps working.

Hartlock manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Hartlock manages to get to full guard.

Vantrell drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hartlock manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Vantrell has Hartlock in his guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Vantrell is looking for a triangle but Hartlock pushes his legs off easily.
Hartlock wants to control from the top but Vantrell keeps moving.

Hartlock parries the strikes from Vantrell easily there. Vantrell is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Hartlock to escape.
Vantrell wants to control but Hartlock is keeping him busy.

Vantrell works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Vantrell in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Hartlock is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Vantrell's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Hartlock slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hartlock lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Vantrell!
Hartlock wants to take Vantrell's back but he can't do it this time.
Vantrell wants to hold on but Hartlock pushes him away.

Hartlock jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Vantrell is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Vantrell and Hartlock has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The referee asks Hartlock politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hartlock prefers to stall for the moment though.

Vantrell is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hartlock off and has taken his back!
I would not like to be Hartlock right now.
Vantrell throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Hartlock!

Vantrell has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Hartlock's body.
Hartlock turns into Vantrell and is now in his guard.
Hartlock is pushing down on Vantrell's leg trying to pass to half guard. Vantrell is fighting to maintain full guard but Hartlock has managed to sneak the leg through.
Hartlock passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Vantrell!

Vantrell is desperately trying to improve his position but Hartlock has a good base and remains in mount.
Hartlock avoids the attempt from Vantrell to control.
Vantrell is breathing heavily.
Vantrell is trying to escape the mount but Hartlock keeps good control and instead manages to take Vantrell's back.

Hartlock has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Vantrell has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Hartlock has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Vantrell! Can he survive? No! He's out! Hartlock gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
