The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bernard connects with a right hand. Johnson shakes it off.
Bernard swats away the attempt to clinch by Johnson.

Johnson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Bernard avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Johnson.
Johnson misses with the ground and pound.
Johnson with the ground and pound but Bernard regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Bernard keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Bernard moves into full guard.
Bernard wants to sweep but no luck.
Bernard has control of Johnson's left arm, preventing Johnson from doing any damage.
Let's hope that Bernard has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bernard manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.

Bernard stands up over Johnson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bernard lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Bernard distracts Johnson with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Johnson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bernard is pushing down on Johnson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Johnson is fighting to maintain full guard but Bernard has managed to sneak the leg through.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Bernard throws a strike aimed at the side of Johnson's head but Johnson avoids it well.

Bernard lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Johnson down.

Johnson regains half guard, as Bernard was trying to land strikes.
The fighters are battling for position here. Johnson manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Bernard stands and throws Johnson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bernard on the ground.

Johnson parries the strikes from Bernard easily there. Bernard is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Johnson to escape.
Bernard cracks Johnson with a big right hand but Johnson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Johnson takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Johnson is rocked!
A big shot lands for Bernard ! That's hurt Johnson! Will he recover? Bernard fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
