Spahn comes to the cage accompanied by Slap my elbow. Santana has chosen ICEMAN as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rik Spahn has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rik Spahn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Francis Santana!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spahn swings for the body but Santana moves out of range.
Spahn misses with an uppercut
and Santana counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Spahn takes a body punch but keeps moving.
A cross from Santana lands.
Santana throws a push kick but Spahn slaps the foot to one side.
Francis Santana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Spahn.
Spahn scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Santana doesn't seem bothered though.
Santana keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Spahn steps into range and cracks Santana with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Santana flops backwards and Spahn dives into his guard looking to finish!


Santana is rocked!


It looks like Francis Santana has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Spahn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Santana is still in real trouble! Can Spahn finish him?
Santana working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Spahn.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Spahn showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Santana seems to have recovered his senses.
Santana avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Spahn postures up and lands a big shot to Santana's brow.
Spahn wants to control from the top but Santana keeps moving.
Spahn slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Spahn in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Santana is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rik Spahn!
Rik Spahn decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
